State Standards: Living Things and Their Environment Standard #13:Give examples of ways in which organisms interact and have different functions within an ecosystem that enable the ecosystem to survive.
Major Learning Targets:
I can explain that an ecosystem consists of habitats made up of biotic and abiotic factors
I can show the levels of organization in an ecosystem, using Springfield as a model
I can identify and explain the types of symbiosis
I can identify and model some prey defense strategies
I can explain how bees are an integral part of our ecosystem
Important Concepts:
All the factors, both biotic and abiotic, effect the life in an ecosystem, and changing one element can affect the whole system
Organism’s habits and lifestyles are affected by their relationships to other organisms that share their habitats
There is a balance that is maintained between organisms to keep the ecosystem running smoothly. When one factor changes it often changes the entire ecosystem
Important Skills:
Critical thinking- Examining a problem and seeking solutions
Analyzing systems and recognizing how components work together
Assessments and Projects in Addition to Weekly Test: Bees- Students will research Colony Collapse Disorder and it’s potential impacts on humanity. research sheets will be completing using articles and web resources Students will apply what they learned about ecosystems and create a model either digitally or physically of the components of our local ecosystem
Book Resources: Prentice Hall Life Science Chapter 22 Sec 4 Biomes and aquatic ecosystems pg 758-769
