State Standard:
Classification of Organisms
Standard #1: Classify organisms into the currently recognized kingdoms according to characteristics that they share. Be familiar with organisms from each kingdom.

Major Learning Targets:
-I can explain why scientists classify
-I can use binomial nomenclature and explain its significance
-I can identify the major levels of classification from most general to most specific
-I can describe the characteristics of the three domains

Important Concepts:
-Scientists classify things based on characteristics they share
-Organisms have more in common the more levels of the classification system they are grouped together in
-Domains are organized by cell type and presence of a nucleus

Important skills:
-Students will be able to create a classification system of their own
-Students will understand the value of classification in daily life
-Students will use technology to engage an audience in a presentation
