State Standards: Systems in Living Things Standard #5: Describe the hierarchical organization of multicellular organisms from cells to tissues to organs to systems to organisms.
Major Learning Targets:
I can explain that cells’ appearances are different depending on their function
I can identify and define the different tissue types
I can recognize organs and understand that they come together to form organ systems
I can list and give examples of the levels of organization from simplest to the most complex
Important Concepts:
Each of the organizational levels must do it’s job properly for the health of the whole organism
Cells do the simplest job and the processes become more complex as the levels get higher
Important Skills:
Students will be able to classify examples of different tissue types based on a description of their functions
Students will create a visual model of the concept of body organization
Assessments and Projects in Addition to Weekly Test:
Create a comic story explaining how these levels come together to form a functioning unit called an organism
Research a topic and determine which level of organization it is about and how it affects the whole organism
